Do not take long to choose a text--you need this to learn how to analyze, so something familiar and/or brief is sufficient.
The literary analysis essay is due on April 14th.
As soon as you choose, visit the online databases Ms. Crowley showed us and try a Google scholar search.
Checking Wikipedia is good for finding sites devoted to the author or title, but only for that. LIkewise, do not use Shmoop, Sparknotes, Bookrag, etc. Here is a good rule of thumb--it you cannot locate the full and actual name of an author--stay away!
Your topic may involve the form of the text, starting with the language: diction (word choice), syntax (sentence structure), paragraphs/chapters (organization), style (the particular features of the genre you choose).
You topic could also include a focus a number of other ways to consider the text, such as the connection between:
- the author's biography and the text;
- the historical time in which the text was written and the text;
- a theory of psychology and character development/ speaker-audience relationship in the text;
- a theory of sociology and the role of society in the text;
- persepctives on gender and the characters or prevailing gender assumptions of a society in the text;
- how people responded to the text when published;
- the culture of the author/audience/society/characters in the text ;
- the economics or politics of the author and/or the characters/society in the text.

Kevin, "The Sniper" is by Liam O'Flaherty and is set in Ireland. The story is online and easily accessible. You might want to check out the historical background. I would be there are a number of stories about brothers on opposite sides of a war; check it out and let me know your particualr analytical angle.
